Looking for a trail to hike? Stop it! Rather; look for a mountain in your neck of the woods that looks like it is hike worthy according to your skill level, and then use topographic maps to scout out the best route to hike. Next, use a variety of map books and satellite imagery to familiarize yourself with the ridges, roads and water features to get close to your chosen trailhead. Create topographic maps of your hike, put them in your backpack along with your QUICK-Fire and get hiking! Be sure to tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return. Bring Bear Spray, specially if you are less than 3 hikers.
